#6 Surgical Mutilation

Six - Ban the surgical mutilation of animals, including dog tail docking, shortening cows' tails, de-barking, ear cropping and de-clawing.
New Zealand law allows the docking of dogs' tails for purely cosmetic reasons. This is cruel and unnecessary. Dogs require their tails to communicate and also for balance. Tail docking can lead to significant health problems, including incontinence, hernias, phantom tail pain and increased sensitivity to pain. Tail docking for dogs should be completely banned. The cropping of ears, the removal of vocal cords and declawing should also be prohibited.
